B2 - studio apartment

stage: under construction
2016
In this project I was the project architect from the conceptual design to its construction. It is a small scale revit project, i.e. it is a studio apartment of approximately 65sqm (45sqm lower level, 20sqm mezzanine) that is being built above an existing two storey house.
The dwelling was designed following more or less the outline of the existing house. Our main structural concern on this project was to not overload the existing concrete framed structure. The dwelling consists of a steel frame and, in general, lightweight materials such as timber, aluminum, light bricks and fabric. Also, the total volume of the house had to be diminished during the construction in order to prevent harming an adjacent pine tree.
The house is southeast oriented and it was carefully designed according to the passive design strategies: i.e. cross ventilation, well-lit spaces, stack effect, shading etc.
The space is divided into two levels. At the lower level there is a living room, a bedroom and the utilities and, at the mezzanine level, there is an extra space for sleeping, an office corner, a cupboard, a bookcase and storage space.
